Nevis will be represented at the Jean Pierre under 16 youth tournament which will be held in Antigua from Sunday 6th to Saturday 12th April.
The team will depart Nevis on Friday 4th and return home on Sunday 13th April.
This was confirmed on Tuesday by Sports Officer at the Department of Sports, Ms Vera Herbert. Ms Herbert revealed that a squad of players was chosen comprising of players representing the Charlestown and Gingerland Secondary Schools and after several practice and training sessions, the final selection of 12 players was made.
She noted that she is still hoping to take two additional players for the experience and used the opportunity to appeal to any would be sponsors to assist in this regard.
She thanked the Nevis island Administration for its kind assistance for making provisions for the team to participate in the tournament by providing uniforms, air fare and accommodation etc.
She pointed out that the tournament will be played in two categories. The main teams will compete in one category and this would include top teams like Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados etc and category two which is coded as the development phase. This is for territories that have not been playing a lot of Netball and are really trying to establish or reestablish the sport. Nevis falls into this category, along with such teams as Antigua and St.Maarten
Ms Herbert and the young ladies present at the Grell Hull –Stevens Netball Complex on Tuesday, were all confident that they will indeed win the development phase of the competition.
