World Famous Local Artist Features Outstanding Cricketers

World-famous local artist Vaughn Anslyn is dedicating his time to focus on the seven Nevisian cricketers who have made it to the West Indies cricket team. He has begun work on a mural on the outer wall of the ET Willet Park, facing the Charlestown Secondary School or the Villa grounds. The mural currently features paintings of Runako Morton and Keith Arthurton. On Wednesday, July 17th, he finished painting the first Leeward Islander to make the West Indies team, Elquemedo Willet.

Anslyn mentioned that he started the particular painting at 2 am, using a light set on his forehead. He explained that working at odd hours inspires him and helps him to focus without being distracted by passersby. He also highlighted that the project is a collaborative effort between himself and Brian Dyer of the Disaster Management Office.

The project initially aimed to raise awareness about disasters and their impact, but the idea of honouring the great cricketers took precedence. Anslyn still needs to complete paintings of Derrick Parry, Stuart Williams, Carl Tuckett, and Kieron Powell.
