Officers of the Frigate Bay Police Station are investigating an incident which occurred on Thursday 18 September 2013 about in which a female resident of Frigate Bay was transported to the hospital after being attacked by two (2) dogs.
Initial investigation revealed that Lucina Charles was walking in the area of the attack to a friend’s home, when she was attacked by the dogs; the breed of the dogs is unknown at this moment.
The general public is asked to pay attention to the following important information from the Dogs (licensing and Control) Act, No. 10 of 2007.
“Owner” is a person who occupies a dwelling house, building or other premises or any part thereof at which a dog is accustomed to stay or to be kept, unless that person furnishes satisfactory’ evidence to the contrary, and includes a person who has the custody or control of a dog.
A person who keeps a dog or kennel without obtaining a license commits an offence and is liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding three hundred dollars, or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding one month or both.
A dog that is four (4) months old or over shall be licensed by its owner, failure to do so the owner commits and offence.
A person who owns or keeps a dog shall keep that dog properly secured on his/her private premises so as to prevent the escape of the dog into any public area or onto the property of another person. Failure to do so the owner commits an offence and is liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding two hundred and fifty dollars or to imprisonment for a tern not exceeding one month, or both.
