Will Nevis Make Basketball History This Saturday?

Fans of local basketball as well as the entire sports fraternity will have their eyes on this weekends much anticipated clash between the island teams of St.Kitts and Nevis in the final game on Saturday January 18th , of the Inagural Sugar Mas Cup series between the islands. Both teams split the first two games with Nevis taking Game 1 in Nevis and St.Kitts taking Game 2 in St.Kitts.
A Nevis victory would be historic as it would be the first time that an Island Team from Nevis has beaten a St.Kitts Island team in a 3 game series. The Nevis victory in game 1 was the first time in over 20 years that a Nevis Island team has beaten a St.Kitts Island team.
According to President Kenroy Tobias Sugar Mas Cup series has shown that Nevis has raised their standard significantly.
“The keenly contested games thus far between the St.Kitts and Nevis island teams has shown me that our executive’s pursuance of increased partnership and involvement with Nevis basketball is paying dividends as we are now seeing a much improved standard of basketball in Nevis,” said Tobias.
“Ten years ago it would’ve been unheard of for a Nevis island team to even be competitive with a St.Kitts island team much less to beat them. This obvious improvement in the standard of play in Nevis is good for the overall development of the sport in the federation,” Tobias continued.
President of the Nevis Basketball Association Wanda Parry stated that she is quite confident that team Nevis will indeed make history and defeat their St.Kitts counterparts to win the first ever Sugar Mas Cup. The Nevis island team journeyed to Montserrat in December and won a weekend series their against the Montserrat National Team.
