He has the distinction of being recognized as the best pool player on Nevis, but reputations did not mean much, as Wayne Jeffers faced off with some of the best pool players from St. Kitts and Nevis, on the evening of Saturday, January 25, 2019.
The tournament was organized by Brian Claxton and was held at his bar, located at Stoney Grove.
It was not just a fun thing either. There was a purse of $1,500.00 up for grabs for the winner and a consolation purse of $500.00 for the second placer.
A number of Kittitians came over for the event and they were adamant that all of the prize monies, would be going back across the water.
After all of the elimination rounds, it came down to a tense battle between Wayne and Mark. Wayne was calm in executing his shots towards the end and emerged the overall champion and seized the $1,500.00 prize.
Mark had to settle for the lesser amount of $500.00.
Brian Claxton indicated that his intention is to make the game of Pool, a big sport on the island, even getting to the point of forming a Pool Association. He plans to use the sport to keep the young men and even older men in the community, meaningfully occupied in their leisure time.
