Update : Police Investigating Discovery of Deceased Individuals on Vessel

On January 29th, 2025, between the hours of 11 AM and 12 PM, the St. Kitts – Nevis Defence Force (SKNDF) Coast Guard Base received a report about a vessel drifting southwest of Nevis. The SKNDF responded promptly and towed the vessel to the Coast Guard base on St. Kitts, where it was dry-docked for further investigation.

Upon arrival, police officers discovered a total of nineteen (19) deceased individuals onboard. Initial assessments indicate that the vessel had been at sea for an extended period, as evidenced by the advanced stages of decomposition of the bodies. It has been determined that all occupants had died before the vessel entered St. Kitts and Nevis territorial waters. Identification documents found on board suggest that some of the deceased individuals originated from Mali, West Africa.

The Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF) is actively working to confirm their identities and understand the circumstances that led to this tragic situation. The scene was processed by the Crime Scene Unit, and several items of evidential value were collected. Investigations are ongoing, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

We urge anyone with additional information regarding this incident to contact the nearest police station as soon as possible. The RSCNPF extends its deepest condolences to the families and communities affected by this tragedy.
