A tropical wave in the Atlantic Ocean has a high likelihood of developing into a tropical depression, potentially impacting the Caribbean islands in the coming days.
The National Hurricane Center (NHC) reports an 80 per cent chance of formation within the next seven days, raising concerns for residents and visitors in the Lesser and Greater Antilles.
The system, currently located midway between the Cabo Verde Islands and the Lesser Antilles, has shown increased shower and thunderstorm activity since yesterday.
While development is expected to be gradual over the next few days, conditions are forecast to become more favourable as the wave approaches the Caribbean.
According to the NHC, the disturbance is projected to continue on a west-northwestward trajectory, potentially affecting portions of the Greater Antilles by mid to late next week.
In the short term, the chances of formation remain low, with only a 30 per cent probability within the next 48 hours.
However, the significant increase in development potential over the seven-day outlook has put meteorologists and regional authorities on alert.
Residents and travelers in the Caribbean, particularly those in and around the Lesser Antilles, are advised to stay informed about the system’s progression.
