Gingerland-Nevis-The funeral service of the late Trevoy Jervyn TREVY Liburd, was held at the Gingerland Methodist church, on Saturday 23rd July.
As his coffin was borne into the entrance of the church, several of his former fishing buddies, raised their spear guns from opposite ends of the aisle, in a unique gun salute. The significance of which would not have been missed by those present, as many persons testified that he had indeed established himself as one of the finest fishers, with a spear gun, on Nevis.
Scores of individuals were on hand for the home-going service.
The officiating Ministers were: Pastor Theophilus Kelly; Pastor Rodwell Grant and Elder Ernie Stapleton.
Many sterling tributes were paid on behalf of the deceased, in song and poetry.
These included tributes by the community group from Zion and surrounding areas; Dawn Archibald; Kurvin Wallace; class of 2004; Leroy Parris Jr; Maurice Flanders; St. Kitts and Nevis Social Security Board; Venelle Powell; Kelly’s family; Sylvia Hendrickson; Brethren Assemblies Nevis and the Heritage Village team.
A glowing eulogy was also presented by Mr. Carlisle Powell-family member and friend.
The sermonette was delivered by Pastor Theophilus Kelly and the interment was at the St. George’s public cemetery, where the gun salute was repeated.
Trevy went spearfishing on Wednesday 22nd June and went missing that same day.
His body was found on Monday 27th June, after days of intense searching.
He leaves to mourn his father Joseph Liburd; his siblings-Evroy Liburd; Eutroy Liburd; Johnella Evelyn and Eulyn Dasent; his son-Noah Trevyon Liburd and many other family members and friends.
