The CCM led Nevis Island Administration will not be pursuing the Oil Storage Facility Investment Project on Nevis

The Premier of Nevis, the Hon Vance Amory has indicated that the CCM led Nevis Island Administration will not be pursuing the Oil Storage Facility Investment Project on Nevis.

He has indicated that while in opposition his Party had taken a firm stance against such a project, in light of the information that was available on it. Now that his Party is in Government and having assessed the project in its proposed form and having discussed with representatives of those wishing to establish such a facility, the Premier and his Administration are of the opinion that such a project is not compatible with our pursuit of the high-end brand of tourism, which forms the backbone of our economy.

The Administration carefully considered the effects on the environment along with risk of exposure to the people of Nevis should an accident occur. In short, the potential negative impact far outweighs any perceived benefits and as such this Administration cannot continue with the proposed facility. No further discussion on this project is warranted.
