“Prosperity for All” is the predominant title and theme of the inaugural Manifesto 2015-2020 of Team Unity. To be released on Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at the Patsy Allers Playfield at 6pm, the comprehensive document – from cover to cover – sends the strong, unequivocal message of Team Unity’s unwavering commitment to putting the people of St. Kitts and Nevis first. Given that the people of St. Kitts and Nevis deserve a government whose agenda will change their lives for the better, Team Unity’s Leader, Dr the Hon Timothy Harris said:
“This Manifesto is a fresh, bold and forward-looking roadmap for change, restoration and prosperity for the people of St. Kitts and Nevis. Team UNITY is ready to serve the people of the Federation. The provisions of the Manifesto send a resounding message of Team Unity’s full commitment to the advancement of our Nation through collective effort – since we are BETTER TOGETHER.”
Dr Harris also stressed the fact that Team Unity’s vision for a better St. Kitts and Nevis must call for collective effort since “we cannot do this alone”. He said, “We believe in the power of ordinary men and women coming together to create opportunities for all, and in so doing, ensure that our children will not only have a secure future but a proud and prosperous legacy which will one day be theirs to govern, love and cherish.”
In similar fashion, Team Unity’s Joint Deputy Leader & Political Head of the People’s Action Movement (PAM), Hon Shawn Richards noted in his own address that the Manifesto’s policies and programmes are an accurate reflection of the consultative campaign approach taken by the political alliance to go out into the communities of St. Kitts and Nevis and listen keenly to the needs and concerns of the people, who are loudly calling for change. Mr Richards stated that the Manifesto’s initiatives were developed as a means of reversing the ill-effects of “the growing dictatorial practices of an unpopular incumbent Prime Minister, and his economic mismanagement over the past 20 years.” Mr Richards made particular reference to the Country’s current predicament, including economic shrinkage; job losses; the land for debt swap that resulted in 1200 acres of our land being surrendered to St Kitts Nevis Anguilla National Bank in order to cover reckless government spending and sky-rocketing debt; and our communities becoming less safe and secure due to increasing crime.
Premier of Nevis and Leader of the Concerned Citizens’ Movement (CCM), the Hon Vance Amory used his Manifesto message to challenge the electorate into honestly answering hard questions such as (a) Are you better off now than you were five years ago? (b) Do you feel safe in your homes? (c) Do you find it easier at month’s end to pay the bills…especially rent, mortgage and car payments? and (d) Do you still feel proud of your citizenship given the myriads of scandals involving our passports? Premier Amory noted that “[T]his is one of the most important elections being contested in our Nation’s history”. He admonished all eligible voters, especially those who are disenfranchised, to go out and vote for Team Unity, emphasizing that “bad governments are elected when good people sit by and do not vote.”
Further details of Team Unity’s premier Manifesto will be disclosed in a subsequent announcement.
