Gingerland –Nevis-Scores of individuals showed up at the Gingerland Seventh Day Adventist Church on Monday 9th May, to be a part of the funeral service of the late Myrtle Odessa Guishard.
‘Teacher Myrtle’, as she was fondly referred to, commenced her teaching career at age 13, as a Pupil Teacher, at the Brown Hill school.
Her teaching career extended across several schools around Nevis and extended beyond the teaching of the regular classroom subjects, as she also taught Home Economics.
She was a super cook and was well recognized for producing some lovely cakes.
Once her official tenure as a teacher was completed, she later served as a Dietitian at the Alexandra Hospital.
Even after full-time retirement, she still found time for her gardening and opened a health food store, referred to as ‘MYRTLE’’S HEALTHY BEGINNINGS.’
She used this as a means to encourage the members of the community to live more healthy and fulfilling lives.
She was also a faithful Seventh Day Adventist Christian and attended church regularly, until, she fell seriously ill.
She passed away quietly on April 30th, 2022, at the ripe old age of 92.
She was the mother of the late, beloved parliamentarian and former Deputy Premier of Nevis, Hon. Malcolm Guishard and leaves behind three other children: Mignon, Hilary and Hyacinth.
Among those present at the funeral service, were Premier Mark Brantley and other cabinet colleagues.
Several of her grandchildren were featured during the service and the stirring sermon of the day was delivered by Pastor Delroy Josiah.
Her body was interred at the Gingerland public cemetery.
