The TDC Group of Companies, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary under the theme ‘Your Neighbour, Your Partner, Your Future’, launched as part of the anniversary celebrations a ‘Warren C. Tyson Memorial Scholarship Public Primary Schools Tour’ which started on Monday, April 24 to showcase its longstanding academic excellence initiative, where beneficiaries of the scholarship programme make presentations at their alma mater.
According to the Company Secretary of the TDC Group of Companies, Mr Warren Moving, himself a beneficiary of the programme, the whole idea behind the Warren C. Tyson Memorial Scholarship Programme was for TDC to contribute to the development of the Nation, adding that it is about the development of children, making sure that they achieve exactly what they want to achieve in life to make better for themselves and the society overall.
“To get presenters for this Public Primary Schools Tour we selected them from former scholarship holders, those persons who are here, then selected those persons who have made contributions to our society, whether it is the job they do, or donations and contributions they would have made to the society,” said Mr Moving.
He noted that they contacted and asked them if they would be willing to do the presentations, and they were quite willing. He added that they didn’t have anybody who turned them down, as they were all quite willing to come forward and said ‘Yes, TDC did make this contribution towards my development’ and so were willing to inspire others to do the same.
“The Prime Minister and I were in the programme the same year in 1989 when we both joined the programme,” recalled Mr Moving. “I was in Gingerland Secondary School and then the Nevis Sixth Form, and he was in Basseterre Junior High School and Basseterre High School and then two years at the Sixth Form College, currently the CFBC.”
