Tayan ‘Mackabe’ Wilkin gunned down

(CHARLESTOWN, NEVIS)- The St. James Race Track was still crowded with people, last night Sunday, September 22, 2013 when the news surfaced that Tayan ‘Mackabe’ Wilkin of New Castle Village had been gunned down.

As the devastating news speedily spread, persons were witnessed breaking down in tears and screaming in disbelief.

Nevispages understands that Tayan was gunned down shortly after 8: 00 p.m. on a long strip of road called Cottle Long Path in the New Castle area. It was reported that ‘Mackabe’ was traveling as a passenger in a maroon rental vehicle when he was attacked.

Persons are of the view that his attacker(s) was monitoring his movements since at the St. James Race Track where he was last seen. It is alleged that he may have being followed and the assailant(s) waited until they reached that area to open fire. Tayan was killed instantly.

Information on how it actually occurred is still sketchy but it is alleged that two shots were fired, one striking the engine and the other to his head. It is also alleged that a white rental van was involved in the attack. Unconfirmed reports also indicate that the driver of the vehicle in which Tayan was travelling, along with another passenger, were not injured.

Tayan leaves behind five children, including a new born baby girl, and his wife Juel Browne- Wilkin.

This death marks the ninth murder for the year 2013 in Nevis.

Police officers are investigating the matter.
