The senior St. Vincent and the Grenadines Netball Team, Vincy Jewels, handed the ECCB International Netball Series champions, Grenada, their second and most significant loss of the 2024 tournament on Sunday, when they scored a nine-goal victory to be crowned the 2024 Champions in the sub-regional tournament.
The Vincentians played unbeaten, winning all seven of their matches and handing defending champions Grenada a 59-50 beating in the final game of the tournament.
Vincy Jewels led in all four quarters: 12- 11, 27-24, 43-38, and 59-50.
Goal-shoot Maryann Frederick, playing through lower back pain, scored 54 of 60 attempts, while goal-attack Kristiana Christopher netted five from 7 attempts. Frederick was awarded the tournament’s Most Accurate Shooter, while Christopher was judged to be the St. Vincent and the Grenadines team’s Most Valuable Player.
Grenada’s Carlene Alexander scored 36 from 39 attempts, and Celina Brown scored 14 from 22. The September 21-30 tournament, sponsored by the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB), was played in Saint Lucia at the Beausejour Indoor Facility.
