Students Enrolled in CFBC Early Childhood Education Course Benefit from Field Trips

Basseterre, St. Kitts (CFBC): Students enrolled in the Early Childhood Education Course at Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College (CFBC) recently participated in two insightful field trips as part of their Philosophical Foundations of Early Childhood (ECPF 101) class. These educational excursions took place on Tuesday, October 29, and Thursday, October 31, 2024.

The first visit was to a Montessori preschool in Fortlands, Basseterre, and the second trip took the students to Nevis, where they visited the Gingerland and Charlestown preschools. These experiences were integral to the student’s class assignments, allowing them to gain practical insights that complemented their theoretical studies. The field trips provided students with the opportunity to observe and engage with early childhood education environments, enriching their understanding of the philosophical foundations of the field.

Lanisa Burke, a dedicated student in the ECPF 101 course, shared that the field trips were both “fun and informative.” She highlighted how these excursions offered valuable insights into different teaching styles and daily routines. Lanisa emphasised that the experience allowed her and her classmates to observe preschool students firsthand, noting the rich diversity in culture, ethnicity, and socio-economic backgrounds. This exposure significantly enhanced their understanding and appreciation of the complexities of early childhood education.

Ms. Nadine Lawrence is the lecturer for the Philosophical Foundations of Early Childhood course.
