St Kitts & Nevis Sends First-Ever Swimmer to Olympics in Paris

St Kitts and Nevis will be sending a small three-member team to Paris to compete at the 2024 Olympic Games.

The St Kitts and Nevis Olympic Committee (SKNOC) said the team is creating history as for the first time, it will include a swimmer.

The committee said the three will be going to Paris on universality places, which are given to National Olympic Committees when athletes from their country did not qualify for the games on their own.

Troy Nisbett, 15, will compete in the Men’s 50-meter freestyle.

SKNOC said Nisbett has been training and competing over the last two years at various events across the Caribbean in preparation for the event.

Naquille Harris, the Men’s 100-meter Champion, is heading to Paris after an ACC All-Conference campaign which saw him win the 60-meter dash and set a new school record of 6.70 seconds.

Harris, 22, also earned all-conference honours in the 100-meter-dash.

Also making her Olympic debut is Zahria Allers-Liburd.

Allers-Liburd, a senior attending the University of South Florida, will compete in the Women’s 100-meter. She is in top form this year, having set a new personal best in the 60-meter with a time of 7.52 seconds.

Team SKN have begun their journey to the Paris games, which runs from July 26 to August 11.

Nisbett, a resident of Nevis, and aquatics coach James Weekes left the federation yesterday for Paris.
They are expected to join a training group of swimmers from the Americas region ahead of the ahead of the competition.
