Director of Sports on Nevis, on Thursday 4th February, gave an update on sporting activities within the federation of St. Kitts and Nevis.
He noted that based on information received, there are ongoing discussions with sporting organizations across St. Kitts and Nevis and the Covid Task force and the Health authorities.
The current mindset is that due to the prevailing corona crisis, attendance at sporting activities should be limited. As a matter of fact, the thought process is that the matches played, should be SPECTATOR LESS.
In light of that, the Netball matches, previously planned to take place this weekend, between teams from Nevis and teams from St. Kitts, at the Brown Hill hard court, have all been postponed.
The much anticipated T-10 competition, to be hosted by the Nevis Cricket Association, is yet to be finalized, as Cricket chief Carlisle Powell, is seeking clarification from the Covid task force.
Meanwhile, matches in the President’s Cup, hosted by the SKNFA, have been suspended, while the Association also seeks to put measures in place to enhance the safety of players and fans.
Claxton noted that the current situation will definitely affect the playing of sports in the federation of St.Kitts and Nevis, as even players excel more, when they are been cheered on by fans, but pointed out that the safety of the general population, has to take precedence.
