The Global Environment Facility, Small Grants Programme in St. Kitts and Nevis is inviting NGOs, Community Groups, Clubs and Organizations to apply for grant funding to assist them in undertaking projects that benefit the environment and their communities.
In this particular call, Small Grants National Coordinator, Ilis Palmer-Watts, explains that Saint Kitts and Nevis has been selected to participate in a recently launched PROCARIBE+ Project, and as part of the project, the SGP will offer support in the areas of:
Upscaling civil society and Medium, Small and Micro-enterprises (MSME) contributions to ocean conservation, ocean-based sustainable development and livelihoods/blue economies, and
Facilitating the establishment of micro-financing schemes that will support the implementation of key regional/national ocean instruments through civil society and/or MSME action.
She went on to explain that PROCARIBE+ is a regional initiative for protecting and restoring the ocean’s natural capital, building resilience and supporting region-wide investments for sustainable blue socio-economic development in the Caribbean and North Brazil Shelf Large Marine Ecosystems (CLME+ region).
“We are looking forward to receiving project ideas from civil society, that fit into this focal area, Ms. Palmer Watts said. “Project concepts are welcomed from fisherfolk organisations, dive, boating and yachting associations, youth and women groups and even from groups with no strong links to the marine environment, but understand the importance of sustainable development, and the development of our blue economy.”
She went on to share that the collaboration will be officially launched October 12th 2024, at the Sandy Point Agricultural Society (SPACS) Annual World Food and Knowledge Fair, and there will be series of meetings and trainings with groups that have indicated interest in undertaking a project.
Ms. Watts further stated that project funding was still available for groups wishing to do work in other areas such as sustainable agriculture for food security, biodiversity conservation, climate action and digital transformation.
