SKN NETBALL OFFICIAL PLEASED WITH EFFORTS OF LOCAL TEAM

Miss Vera Herbert, President of the Nevis Netball Association and Vice President of the St. Kitts-Nevis Netball Association, on Thursday, in an exclusive interview with Ramie Gumbs, expressed appreciation to The St. Kitts-Nevis under 21 team for their commendable showing in the recently concluded AFNA under 21 Netball tournament.

The tournament which was held in St. Maarten from the 22nd to 28th August, featured some seven teams, all seeking to qualify for the world under 21 AFNA tournament, set for BOTSWANA in 2017.

Only the top three teams qualified for the grand tournament and St. Kitts-Nevis placed a credible fourth, just failing to qualify.

The placements of the competing teams were as follows: Barbados; Trinidad & Tobago; Grenada; St. Kitts-Nevis; Canada; St. Maarten and Argentina.

Going forward, Miss Herbert is adamant that the more the girls play in competitive settings, they can only get better.

Her Association is currently preparing for an upcoming AFNA sponsored seniors’ tournament, which will feature Netballers over the age of 23.

That tournament is slated to be held in St. Maarten next month and St. Kitts and Nevis will be represented. A federation team is expected to be selected after the two island teams engage in two upcoming practice matches.

Miss Herbert is of the view that there are still some very good Netballers in the Federation and believes that there is hope yet for them to excel.
