Former Head of State and Governor-General Sir Daniel Williams GCMG has passed away at the age of 88 after a period of illness. He died on the morning of 2 October 2024. He is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren. Sir Daniel, a lawyer by profession, was a founder of the law firm Danny Williams and Company. He became a Queen’s Counsel in 1996 and was knighted in 1997.

Sir Daniel entered political life after the collapse of the People’s Revolutionary Government and was one of the founding members of the New National Party (NNP). The party won the 1984 general elections, and he served in various ministerial roles, including health minister in the Herbert Blaize Government.

Dr Keith Mitchell, who served in the same cabinet with Sir Daniel, expressed his grief, saying, “I have lost an extremely good friend. He was a good Grenadian patriot who did his job without fear or favor. He was an honest person and always willing to help.”

Dr Mitchell, who is the current Opposition Leader in the Parliament, also mentioned that he considered Sir Daniel a trusted friend who offered him advice in his political life.
