Saint Kitts and Nevis Foreign Minister Douglas Discusses Strengthening Allyship with Taiwan President Lai Ching-te

Taipei, Republic of China (Taiwan) (Embassy of St. Kitts and Nevis) – On Tuesday, March 18, the President of the Republic of China (Taiwan), Lai Ching-te met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Trade, Economic Development and Investment, Rt. Hon. Dr Denzil L. Douglas to discuss deepening the partnership between the two countries.

Senior Government Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas reaffirmed the government’s commitment to speaking up for Taiwan as they deserve a voice and a seat among peers in international organisations.

“Taiwan has the innovation, technology, knowledge, and expertise to make a tremendous positive impact on some of the world’s most urgent issues,” Minister Douglas touted.

President Lai Ching-te thanked Saint Kitts and Nevis for actively speaking up for Taiwan and supporting Taiwan’s participation at international venues and organizations including the United Nations General Assembly, the World Health Organization, and the International Civil Aviation Organization.

In support of Saint Kitts and Nevis’ Sustainable Island State Agenda, President Lai Ching-te stated, “I also believe that by having Taiwan share its experiences in renewable energy and energy-saving technologies, our two countries will jointly drive green industrial transformation and stimulate sustainable development together.”

The Minister of Foreign Affairs is leading a delegation in Taiwan to strengthen diplomatic relations and to forge new opportunities for cooperation and investment particularly in the renewable energy sector.

The trip included the 2025 Saint Kitts and Nevis Trade & Investment Promotion Seminar, a meeting with students, a trip to Taiwan Power Company and other meetings and event.

The delegation includes Ms. Kaye Bass, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ms. Adina Richards, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Economic Development, Mr. Sean Lawrence, Director in the Ministry of International Trade, Mr. Jonathan Kelly, Energy Transition Manager at the St. Kitts Electricity Company (SKELEC) and Mr. Trevor Blake, President of the St. Kitts and Nevis Chamber of Industry & Commerce.
