Rihanna sued over “unpaid funeral bill”

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, Thursday August 15, 2013 – Rihanna unquestionably did her country proud as the brightest star in the street parades at Barbados’ recently concluded Crop Over Festival. There nevertheless appears to be trouble in paradise just around the corner for the Diamonds girl.

According to celebrity website TMZ, the company that handled funeral arrangements for Rihanna’s grandmother Clara “Dolly” Brathwaite is suing the songbird over an unpaid $150,000 bill.

After Mrs Brathwaite lost her long battle with cancer in June last year, her famous granddaughter threw her a lavish, no-expense-spared funeral with “tents, multimedia large screens and huge exotic floral arrangements,” according to TMZ.

The online gossip site went on to say that the funeral home claimed that Rihanna only paid one-quarter of the bill, felt that the total amount was exorbitant, and refused to pay the balance.

Following the death of her beloved “Gran Gran Dolly,” Rihanna opened up to Oprah Winfrey about her loss.

“She taught me a lot about forgiveness and loving my enemies,” said the Stay songstress, who cancelled several performances to be with Brathwaite as her illness approached its final stages.

“I didn’t know how important those days would be,” the singer said. “I didn’t know what else to do. We knew she was sick for a long time, so we were grieving her as she was alive. You take in every moment.”

Meanwhile, the lawsuit is the most recent in a string of litigation plaguing the Bajan superstar of late.

Last month the Talk That Talk singer won a $5 million lawsuit against British clothing chain Topshop for using her unlicensed image on T-shirts.

One week previously she had forked-out $47,000 over missed court dates stemming from a lawsuit she brought against her accountants.

And presumably to prove that we live in a crazy world, a New Yorker recently sued cosmetics giant MAC, claiming that the company’s Rihanna-branded lipstick gave her herpes.
