Reese Walters sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Shante Claxton

Charlestown, Nevis (Nevispages.com): Reese Walters of Cotton Ground, Nevis, will spend the rest of his life in prison for the murder of 15-year-old Shante Claxton.

Justice Ermin Moise sentenced Walters at the High Court in Charlestown on Monday, October 19, 2020.  In handing down the sentence, Justice Moise described the case as extraordinary and aggravating.

Walters was found guilty by a 12-member jury on May 02, 2019, for the murder committed on Saturday, September 6, 2014.

Shante was on her way to church on that gloomy Saturday morning when her life was tragically taken away from her.

It was later that same day that the teenager’s lifeless body was discovered in one of the bathrooms of the St. Thomas Primary School by a family member.

Walters was charged with murder on September 14, 2014.

During the trial, forensic pathologist Dr Valery Alexandrov testified that Claxton’s death was caused by manual strangulation. He noted that this could have only been caused by someone placing their hands around her neck and cutting off her oxygen.

Walters appeared stoic as he was led out of the court.  His sentence will be reviewed in 30 years
