Basseterre, St. Kitts, November 8, 2016 (SKNIS): The Reduced VAT (Value Added Tax) Rate Day has been agreed upon and confirmed by the Ministry of Finance in conjunction with the St. Kitts and Nevis Chamber of Industry and Commerce to be Friday, December 16, 2016.
The payment of monthly salaries and pensions will be made on Wednesday 14th December, 2016, instead of the originally scheduled date of Friday 16th December, 2016, to facilitate consumers.
Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris said that the decision by the Cabinet to continue to have a Reduced VAT Rate Day is a part of the Government’s agenda of re-calibration of the economy in the context of renewed fiscal discipline.
Shortly after assuming power in the February 2015 General Elections, the Government of National Unity removed VAT from food, medicines and funeral expenses for 365 days of the year as one of its Manifesto promises to the people.
