Cricket Chief on Nevis, Denrick Liburd, has assured that he is definitely putting his name in the proverbial hat, to vie for the post of president once again.
The Nevis Cricket Association will shortly be making the grand announcement to call the annual general meeting of that august body. As a matter of fact, Liburd indicated that a tentative date, is set for Tuesday 28th January.
Liburd reminded that when he was initially elected, he had elaborated on a strategic plan and part of that plan was for Nevis to once again dominate Cricket at all levels in the Leeward Islands.
He pointed to credible performances of the senior team and the overwhelming success of the under 17 team, as major success stories in 2019. He also indicated that his entire executive team, will also be up for reelection, and throwing their full support behind him.
If re-elected, Liburd states that his association will hit the ground running, as an elite team will be immediately put into training, even as the franchise tournament is being held. There will also be 40 overs matches; two day matches and the second division tournament will be brought back to the fore.
Asked about his confidence that such tournaments will take place, when some of them failed to materialize last year, Liburd pointed to several obstacles that created hiccups last year, but noted that sponsors were already in place for most of the proposed tournaments this year.
The ladies will also not be left behind and they will be incorporated to play against the under 17’s and under 15’s and at least the top four female players will get an opportunity to participate in the franchise tournament, as each team will be required to have at least one female included in the eleven.
It is expected to be a tight race for the top position, as several top former players and administrators, have already indicated an interest in reviving Nevis Cricket.
