Public Advisory Re: E-Commerce Scams

The White Collar Crime Unit (WCCU) of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF), in collaboration with the St. Kitts and Nevis Financial Intelligence Unit (SKNFIU), is issuing this advisory to the general public to assist in identifying and preventing E-Commerce Scams.

We have received information suggesting that individuals are engaging in fraudulent activities, particularly on social media, by posing as legitimate sellers of goods. The public is strongly advised to be cautious when engaging in transactions on social media and using online platforms for payments.

Here are some recommendations:
– Be careful when conducting business on social media.
– If the seller is unknown or cannot be verified, avoid making the transaction.
– Verify the availability of the goods and the selling price by contacting the seller directly via phone.
– Ensure that payment is confirmed through direct communication with the seller.
– Exercise caution when purchasing goods from unfamiliar individuals, as they may be stolen items.

The RSCNPF and SKNFIU are committed to fulfilling their national mandates by raising awareness and combating money laundering and related criminal activities.
