Prime Minister Drew Emphasizes Collaboration in Advancing National Interests

Basseterre, St. Kitts (PMO)– While delivering Welcome Remarks at the Green Climate Fund (GCF) Regional Dialogue with the Caribbean, March 17, Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Terrance Drew underscored the critical importance of political togetherness and collaboration between the Federal Government and the Nevis Island Administration (NIA) in driving national development and addressing pressing challenges such as climate change.

Reflecting on the collaborative efforts between the two administrations, Prime Minister Drew stated, “The relationship between the leader of the opposition and myself speaks to a larger question of collaboration. If we are expecting the world to collaborate with us, we must first learn to collaborate with ourselves.”

He further emphasized that prioritizing the nation’s welfare over individual interests is key to achieving significant progress: “If the political will is to always put the people and country above self, then almost anything else can be achieved.”

One of the most significant examples of bipartisan collaboration is the landmark geothermal energy project, which is being spearheaded through joint efforts between the Federal Government and the NIA. The project, backed by international partners such as the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) and the Saudi Fund for Development, represents a unified effort to secure clean, affordable, and sustainable energy for the Federation. With drilling expected to commence this year, the initiative is a major step toward reducing electricity costs, cutting carbon emissions, and positioning St. Kitts and Nevis as a leader in renewable energy within the Caribbean.

This commitment was further demonstrated during a joint Cabinet meeting held later on in the day at Park Hyatt. Led by Prime Minister Drew and Premier Hon. Mark Brantley, the meeting focused on issues of national interest, including the Sustainable Island State agenda.

Prime Minister Drew’s call serves as a reminder that bipartisan cooperation is essential for the successful implementation of initiatives that benefit all citizens of St. Kitts and Nevis.
