Basseterre, St. Kitts, April 5, 2018 – St. Kitts and Nevis’ Prime Minister Dr. Timothy Harris has confirmed that scores of appointments he has made to positions in the civil service and government-owned corporations, are based on political allegiance to the three-party coalition that he heads.
Harris made the disclosure during a recent Town Hall Meeting in Sandy Point where his Deputy Prime Minister Hon. Shawn Richards is the parliamentary representative.
“When we look around and see all the persons from Sandy Point who have been elevated to big jobs, big positions, they are the ones who suppose to be on the campaign trail and writing like how Calvin Farrier (former Cabinet Secretary in the Kennedy Simmonds/PAM administration) wrote week after week in his long epistle in the Democrat. They don’t have to write the same long epistle. (All they need) is just two paragraphs of good writemanship about how well this government is doing.
We have done that for you. And some of you, all of a sudden, when Team Unity puts you in positions, you all ain’t in no politics. Is politics give you all those jobs. Is politics give you all the work,” said Harris in a deranged voice.
Harris then issued a threat to those who fail to tow his Team Unity political line.
“Truth be told, and if suddenly you all not into politics, now you all get the big jobs, well the people of the country will make a determination about those things. Be careful there are some things we take for granted,” Harris warned.
Several civil servants have repeatedly complained of being instructed and at times pressured to attend Team Unity and PLP political events.
