Basseterre, St. Kitts (SKNIS): Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis the Honourable Dr. Terrance Drew, expressed pleasure with the ongoing construction of the model smart homes in Conaree and Taylor’s.
The prime minister recently toured the site and spoke with the contractors building the homes. On the January 24th edition of InFocus, Dr. Drew said that he was impressed with what he saw.
“The house has panels. These panels are steel mesh panels. There is steel coming up between the panels, then they are bridged with steel, and then it’s filled with concrete. It is a concrete house,” Prime Minister Drew stated, noting that the construction process is new to the Federation.
“Look at the house in Conaree, it’s cheaper [to build], stronger, the space in there is amazing and you can easily build on top,” he added. “This won’t have any bats coming into your house. The chances of leakage are really low. It is better to protect from hurricanes and is more resistant to strong earthquakes.
The prime minister also noted that the homes are spacious which is in keeping with the feedback from locals who noted that the original plans were somewhat small. This prompted the National Housing Corporation (NHC) to work with the developers to find a larger option.
Dr. Drew encouraged people to stay tuned to official media outlets to find out when they can go and see the model homes for themselves.
