The 10th annual walkathon hosted by the Pink Lily Cancer Care Association, is set for this coming Saturday -20th October. It will be conducted under the theme ‘Celebrating life.’
This was confirmed by Miss Tracey Parris, as her group coordinated a day of registration for the event, on Wednesday 17th October, at the Memorial Square in Charlestown.
Tracey explained that founder of the Association and cancer survivor, Mrs. Lea Parris-Cambridge, will unfortunately not be able to make it to the event this year, as she is currently undergoing some medical procedures, in dealing with her stage four cancer, which she has survived for a few years now.
However, the walk will go on as planned and there is another mass registration campaign set for Friday 19th October, when interested persons can register and purchase T-shirts at the same time.
The cost is only for $50.00 adults and $40.00 for children under 12, which allows the individual to get a t-shirt, a bandanna and a nourishing breakfast at the end of the walk.
The walk will commence in the general area of Chicken Stone in Gingerland at 6 am and the walkers will proceed along the island main raid, through Charlestown and the walk will climax on Pinney’s Beach, at the popular Sunshine’s Bar and Grill, where there will be a closing ceremony and a breakfast for the participants. Prizes will be awarded to such persons as the youngest walker; oldest walker etc. Dr. Avery has been winning the prize for oldest walker for the last several years, virtually unchallenged.
Miss Parris is inviting members of the general public to come out and register as the proceeds as per usual, will go towards assisting cancer patients in their care and even family members, as they face the critical disease together.
