St John’s, ANTIGUA – Antigua and Barbuda is the last stop of three for the ICC Women’s World T20 Team official declaration of countries to host the November 3-25 World Championship.
This Friday (February 23), the event will include the symbolic presentation of a cricket bat to signify Antigua and Barbuda’s commitment to host their leg of the event. The ceremony will have greetings and remarks from the Government, CWI, WIPA and ICC.
The event will take place at the Government House, the official office of the Governor General of Antigua and Barbuda. The site is among one of the many heritage sites on the island. The facility was restored back in 2014. A short but exciting entertainment package will be added featuring the 73-year old Hells Gate Steel Band Orchestra.
Guyana, Saint Lucia and Antigua and Barbuda won the bids to host the three-week historic tournament, which will showcase the women’s version of the game in a stand-alone global event for the first time.
The ceremony for the official declaration will run from 6:00 – 8:00 pm and is being hosted jointly by the People and Government of Antigua and Barbuda, the Local Organizing Committee supported by Cricket West Indies.
The WINDIES women are now in New Zealand for a five-week tour. They are down to play three ODIs and five T20Is. WINDIES Women are defending World Champions.
