Newtown United ladies dispatched Nagico Cayon Rockets 3-0 in the 2023 Elvis Star Browne Women’s League match at the SKNFA Technical Center in St. Peters on Thursday. Katelyn Forbes scored two goals in the 4th and 84th minute and Christi-Anne Mills scored in the 58th min. Coach of Newtown Shashi Isaac, said while there are some things to work on, he is pleased with the win. “We still have some work (to do). (They) were losing shape; getting out of position, but we stuck it out, got the goals…we still have more to improve on,” he said.
Coach Tyrone O’Loughlin of Cayon said the team played well despite the loss, but they have a lot of work to do. “My team played alright tonight, about 70% out of 100 just because of fitness (issues). At least, they are doing what I taught them on the practice ground,” he said. He bemoaned that if a goalkeeping error had not led to the first goal, it might have been a different game.
Match week 2 which began last week Thursday in Nevis, saw Queen City defeating Bath United 2-1, MFCR Old Road United Lady Jets crushing Garden Hotspurs 19-0 and Newtown United defeating Village Superstar Ladies 7-1. The latter two matches were played at the SKNFA Technical Center.
