Basseterre, St. Kitts, September 13, 2013 (SKNIS): Anselm Caines of Stoney Grove Nevis and Sonia Boddie of Basseterre St. Kitts have recently been named the two new CARICOM Youth Ambassadors (CYA) for the Federation both of which are determined to reach not only the youth of the Federation but also the youth of the region.
Ms. Boddie shared that during her time as a CYA she will commit herself to being a youth advocate and to do anything within her capacity to try to empower the Federation’s young people.
“I am very happy that I have now been assigned this post because I think, as a late, great Chinese leader once said ‘the youth are like the sun at eight or nine in the morning and the future is ours’ and we have to start paving the way for us young people to start leading this beautiful Federation,” she stated. “In this capacity I will start to put down the necessary asphalt where needed to cover-up those potholes that are going to put the stumbling blocks in our way to start leading.”
Mr. Caines expressed that “it is a privilege, pleasure and honour to be able to serve the nation’s people, particularly the young people, in such a capacity.”
“I believe my role as a CARICOM Youth Ambassador is a very important one because it allows me the opportunity to positively impact the lives of the young people and advocate for their causes and many concerns which they may have,” he stated. “I believe that the opportunity afforded to me to serve as a CARICOM Youth Ambassador will allow me to shape and direct the discourse as well as the direction of CARICOM issues here in St. Kitts and Nevis.”
Mr. Caines relayed plans for him and his colleague to liaise with other CARICOM Youth Ambassadors to devise ways to penetrate the schools and local media about the Caribbean Community. Such plans include a CARICOM regional school quiz where there will be discussions on issues that are pertinent to regional development and a Mock CARICOM Heads of Government Conference.
Two alternate ambassadors, Jakiema Flemming and Jayquan Phillip will also be joining them in support of their endeavours.
