NIA CHARLESTOWN NEVIS (February 21, 2013) — The young people of Nevis will receive greater attention from the Nevis Island Administration (NIA). That disclosure came from Premier of Nevis Hon. Vance Amory when he spoke to local media on February19, 2013 at the Ministry of Finance conference room in Charlestown.
Mr. Amory explained that his new Administration had so far been in contact with friendly governments since entering office after victory at the local election late January who they felt were able to assist through technical assistance and developmental financing to help with smaller but important projects in agriculture and youth in the community.
“Those two areas are important areas of consideration for ourselves so that we can broaden and involve the young people, who may feel that governments don’t serve them and become disenchanted. We need to focus on them,” he said.
The Premier noted that the Administration planned to organise shortly meetings with the youths in the island’s five constituencies.
“One of the things that we as a government will do as well is, within the not-too-distant future, organise in the five constituencies meetings with the young people of those constituencies so that we can hear from them what are some of the things which they would like to see.
“They can identify for us their concerns, what skills they want, what they like and would like to see develop and can be utilised. That is going to be a way of ensuring that we reach out into the communities, reach out to those young people and focus our attention on community development and youth and young people development in those communities,” he said.
