Charlestown, Nevis (April 6, 2021): On Wednesday, April 3, 2021, the Nevis Solid Waste Management Authority, hosted a very important workshop for its drivers and loaders. The focus was on safe driving and the Facilitator was facilitated by Sargeant Marva Chiverton, the head of the traffic department on Nevis.
Sargeant Chiverton concentrated on areas such as:
• Defensive driving
• Distracted driving
• Pre-trip inspection
• Safety in bad weather
• Health on the road
• Traffic laws
She highlighted the ills associated with excessive speeding, not using seat belts and the avoidance of using phones while driving.
The session was very interactive with the divers and loaders asking a number of relevant questions.
Sargeant Chiverton also used the opportunity to appeal to members of the general public, to be courteous in dealing with the representatives of the Nevis Solid Waste Management Authority, when they are out on the public roads, collecting garbage.
Sargeant Chiverton was ably assisted in her presentation, by Constable Jeffers.
Opening remarks were presented by Mr. Gladstone Edwards, with Robinson Durand invoking God’s guidance on the proceedings. Welcome remarks and the vote of thanks, were done by Operations Manager, Mr. Rudy Browne.
At the end of the workshop, the participants were presented with certificates.
