(CHARLESTOWN NEVIS)-The island of Nevis is today mourning the death of popular bus driver Volney ‘Busman’ Dore of Rawlins Village, who passed away on the morning of Tuesday, November 26, 2013.
Busman, as he is popularly called is known especially on the Gingerland-Charlestown bus route. He primarily served the Rawlins and Hanley’s Road areas with his white bus labeled ‘BUSMAN’.
He was known and adored by bus users and non bus users alike in those areas. He commanded the trust of the youth, elderly, parents of school aged children, students and all persons who knew him whether in a personal or private capacity.
He was one of the honorees for Independence 2013, and was honored by the Nevis Island Administration (NIA), for his contribution to public service.
One of his colleagues speaking to Nevispages as news of his death circulated said, “We are all sad to hear that ‘Busman’ passed away, I saw him on the road up to last night”. He noted that Busman had worked in the bus industry for over 30 years and was well-liked and was very professional with his job.
One passenger, who travelled with him regularly said, “Tears came to my eyes when I heard the shocking news, he will be sadly missed by everyone and our thoughts are with his friends and family at this sad time”.
