(CHARLESTOWN, NEVIS)- CJ Bartlette of the Nevis Drag Racing Unit indicated on Tuesday that plans for the upcoming Independence Drag Race Meet is virtually finalized.
The drag racers and related officials were set to meet with Minister of Sports, Hon. Mark Brantley on Tuesday afternoon but he noted that the meet is definitely on.
The meet will be held on Sunday, September 21 at the St. James Raceway with the test and tune requirements to be completed on Saturday, September 20, 2014.
Participation has been confirmed from host island Nevis; St.Kitts; Anguilla; St.Maarten and St.Eustatius.
The cost for the event will be the usual $20.00 for adults and $10.00 for children.
Special homage will be paid in memory of the two Drag Racers from Anguilla who died just ahead of last year’s race meet while preparing for the event in Anguilla.
Bartlette indicated that their vehicle malfunctioned during a practice run and crashed, killing the two young men.
“We continue to empathize with the families and we will always remember their contributions to the sport,” he said.
Bartlette is expecting the usual bumper crowds at the event and noted that the day will culminate with a prize giving ceremony.
