On Tuesday of this week, Nevis’ Cricket chief, Carlisle Powell, sat down with NTV Sports page to give an update as to his association’s progress, after its first meeting, held on Monday, February 10, 2020. Powell described the meeting as an excellent one and lauded the participation level of the members and especially those who were attending such a meeting for the first time.
An update received from Vice President Denrick Liburd, revealed the following:
• Leeward Islands Cricket Association AGM, slated for Saturday 14th March
• Under 19 tournament, tentatively slated for June/July
• Women’s trials, set for March 4th to 8th
• Seniors tournament-set for September
• Under 15’s and under 17’s tournament, set for December.
It was discovered that LICA has not received certain consent forms required on behalf of young players selected to represent some of the age group teams and so that is being dealt with as a matter of urgency.
There will also be a foundation course for coaches, scheduled for Thursday 27th February, at the Red Cross headquarters and Powell is urging all individuals involved in coaching children on the island, to attend. Incidentally, the course is being offered, free of cost.
Six committees have been established:
1. Finance and sponsorship
2. Membership
3. Cricket
4. Disciplinary tribunal
5. Scoring and statistics
6. Grounds
Of immediate concern, the management team will be contacting all cricket teams and clubs on the island, even those that were not allowed to vote at the last AGM, to get everybody on board, for the upcoming local Cricket season. Second Division-Membership fee $50.00; registration fee $100.00. First Division-membership fee $50.00; registration fee $200.00.
Meanwhile, Powell further indicated that he has already made contact with Sports Minister, Hon. Eric Evelyn and he has promised to get back to him to set up a meeting date. Some of the matters to be discussed will include the proposed development of the ET Willet Park and making office space available at the ETW, for the NCA.
Powell noted that an anonymous donor has already pledged a donation to his association, of two desktops; two laptops and a camera, which will be used for the live streaming of matches.
For now, some time will be spent in the preparation of the female team towards their upcoming tournament and also in assisting the younger players as well.
