Following the recently concluded First Federal Credit Union St. Kitts and Nevis Netball tournament, a squad of 28 players has been selected and is currently undergoing intense training sessions.
According to Allister Thompson, second vice president of the St. Kitts and Nevis Netball Association, only players who participated in the recent tournament, were considered for selection.
Three players from Nevis, have made it into the squad: Diana Browne, Shenette Skeete and Tashica Bowens.
The management team comprises Allister Thompson-manager; Masefield Nisbett –trainer and Valerie Nisbett- Coach.
The busy training schedule takes place four days per week in St. Kitts, on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, from 6 to 9 pm.
The squad will be reduced by seven players within the upcoming week and then two weeks later, it will be further reduced by another seven players.
Eventually, a team of thirteen players will be finalized to participate in the OECS ECCB Netball tournament, which will be held in Antigua, from the 29th of September to the 8th of October.
This team must include at least one player under the age of twenty-one years.
Even though defending champions St. Vincent and the Grenadines will not be a part of this year’s tournament, there are some nine teams in total, for what is expected to be a competitive tournament.
Thompson is confident that the local team will perform well and do the federation proud.
He noted that only about four players who played in last year’s tournament held in Dominica, are in the current setup.
Shortly after returning from Antigua, the SKN team will travel to St. Maarten, to participate in the Battle of the Saints tournament, from the 18th to the 23rd of October.
Following that tournament, the local tournaments in both St. Kits and Nevis will be held.
