The First Federal Cooperative Credit Union Federal Netball competition got underway on the evening of Saturday 27th May.
It commenced with an impressive march past the competing teams and culminated with an official opening ceremony at the Pamela Tyson Netball Complex.
The ceremony was chaired by Miss Jaedee Caines the PRO for the St. Kitts-Nevis Netball Association
The tournament will see matches played between teams from St. Kitts and Nevis, with matches played on both islands.
The participating teams are Koscab Coca-Cola Shamrock Netball Club; Revivorz; Liamuiga Housing Development Aqua Ballerz; Newtown Netball Club and Saddlers Ball Stars.
Mr. Deon French, President of the SKNNA also offered brief remarks and opined that 2023 is a historical year for Netball in St. Kitts and Nevis and quoted some of the achievements over the last fifty years.
A moment’s silence was observed for the passing of former Netball Coach, Earl Clarke.
Ms. Seraphina Osbourne of the First Federal Cooperative Credit Union spoke on behalf of her institution and was quick to point out that her Credit Union is the only one within the federation to have a presence on both islands.
Ms. Valencia Syder from the Ministry of Sports, spoke on behalf of the Minster of Sports, Hon. Samal Duggins. She stated that the tournament is a step in the right direction, in terms of the development of the sport on both islands.
Ms. Jennifer Nero from the SKNOC declared the tournament officially open.
Ms. Shelagh James also assisted in directing the proceedings.
Immediately after the opening ceremony, action on the court commenced, with Coca-Cola Shamrock of St. Kitts, defeating Revivorz of Nevis, 45 goals to 14.
