Gingerland –Nevis-It was a brief but significant ceremony and it was held at the Joycelyn Liburd Primary School, on Tuesday 16th October.
Headmistress at the school, Miss Barbara Hendrickson, explained that as the school was celebrating its 40th year of serving the community, it was felt that among those to be specially recognized, would be the school’s longest serving Head teacher. She revealed that that individual, was Mrs. Marion Lescott.
As a matter of fact, Mrs. Lescott was a teacher at the school when it officially opened in 1978.
Quick calculations had pointed to the fact that Mrs. Lescott, who had served as Headmistress from 1997 until 2012, would have served for 15 years.
A number of the current teachers who were either her students during her tenure, or fellow teachers, while she was the Headmistress, joined her at the front of the assembly setting.
Two of the teachers, Miss Britney Brookes and Mr. Terec Dore presented her with a fruit basket and a plaque, in a show of love from the school and wished her success in her future endeavours.
Mrs. Lescott for her part, thanked the Headmistress, staff and students for the kind gesture and wished them all the best, as they continue to celebrate their 40th year of existence.
