Basseterre, St. Kitts, April 5, 2018 – Another call on the Team Unity Government to pay carnival winners, participants, vendors and others for the 2017/2018 National Carnival (Sugar Mass) which ended in January.
The latest call has came Wednesday from West Basseterre MP, Hon. Konris Maynard.
“Why is this? What is the rationale why a government which claims to be having its best days yet, cannot, nearly half way through the new year, cannot pay the persons owed.
We are calling on the Government and the Ministry responsible, particularly, Hon. Shawn Richards and all the stakeholders responsible for the payment of peoples’ monies for Carnival, to do so forthwith,” said Maynard.
He said persons owed are becoming frustrated. “They have been telling their sub vendors they are still waiting to be paid,” said Maynard, who quickly pointed out that in times past under the former administration, when late January came and no payments were yet made, there were persons like King Sacrotey who would be out in full force making public statements about payments.
“Why are they not in the forefront to make noise for payment as they did in the past?” asked MP Maynard, who noted that several of the winners in the 2017/2018 Sugar Mas are from the area he represents in the National Assembly
