Charlestown, Nevis ( January 3, 2020) – Minister responsible for Sports on Nevis, Hon. Eric Evelyn is not a happy trooper.
The Sports Minister is not happy with the lack of reporting by many travelling teams, who go out to represent Nevis, regionally.
He was speaking on the issue while giving an overview of the year in Sports on Nevis.
He noted that when representative teams or players are travelling overseas to represent the island, requests are normally made to the Nevis Island Administration, through his ministry, for monetary assistance in making the various trips a reality.
Minister Evelyn stated that he and his Ministry are always willing to help, but is saddened by the fact that on many occasions, players and teams return home, without alerting him as Minister, or the Department of Sports and do not report on their performances, for the benefit of the general public.
He indicated that such behaviour will have to stop in 2020, as he will put systems in place to ensure that when players and teams travel to represent the island, that the reporting will be a part of the stipulated requirements.
Meanwhile, he stated that the 2019 sports year was a good one and noted that certain athletes excelled in their sport of choice. The Minister also indicated that better systems will be put in place to monitor the lights at the various sporting venues, across the island
