MALCOLM GUISHARD LEAGUE UNDERWAY
By:Curtis Morton
The 2016 edition of the Malcolm Guishard Basketball league, got underway on the evening of Sunday 21st August.
The 8th edition of the event was preceded by a brief ceremony at the Church Ground hard court, which was chaired by NABA President Miss Wanda Parry.
She also invoked God’s blessings on the tournament and this was followed by a brief address by main sponsor and Minister of Sports, Hon. Mark Brantley.
Minister Brantley indicated that he has been sponsoring the tournament from its inception but noted that the key individual responsible for making things happen, was Wanda Parry, who would constantly remind him of the tournament and the required funds etc. He asked for a round of applause on her behalf.
He also noted that he continues to sponsor the event because he wants to keep the legacy of Malcolm Guishard burning and pointed to the contributions of the late parliamentarian, locally, regionally and internationally.
He pledged his continued commitment to the tournament as he pointed out that such a sport is geared towards keeping people healthy and active and as Minister of Health, that is one of his ultimate goals.
He then inspected the teams before officially declaring the league open and even stated that he had come suited up, in case he was needed by one of the teams.
The teams participating in this year’s event are: CG Massives; Ole Skool; Eagles; Dynasty Ballers and CGRS.
