The funeral service for the late sporting icon of Nevis, Lester Blackett, was held at the Grell Hull Stevens Netball complex on Sunday, June 9th. The viewing started at 1:00 pm. The procession began at 12:30 pm from the Hunkins funeral home and ended at the Grell Hull-Stevens Netball complex.
Former Olympian Kurvin Wallace and representatives from various Primary Schools, participating in the Interprimary sports meet, led the procession to honor Lester Blackett’s significant contribution to sports and athletics. Additionally, there was representation from various sporting bodies throughout the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis.
Several tributes were given in honour of Lester Blackett from organisations such as Charlestown Secondary School, Bath United Football Club, Glendale Herbert, SKN Association of Professional Engineers, Ministry of Communications, Nevis Cricket Association, and Hon. Troy Liburd.
During the service, his contributions to sports and the island’s social development were highlighted. The sermon was delivered by Pastor Chalvar Henry of the Seventh Day Adventist church, and the body was interred at the Bath cemetery after another impressive procession.
