Lea Cambridge Parris calls for early registration for Pink Lily 5th anniversary walkathon

CHARLESTOWN,Nevis,October 7,2013 Lea Parris Cambridge the Founder and CEO of Pink Lily Cancer Care and her mother arrives from UK, on Saturday, October 12, 2013 to join hands with those who will enlist to continue to fight against cancer by participating in the 5th anniversary walkathon scheduled to be held on Saturday October 19 at 6.00 a.m.
Lea and her mother, Mary Parris ,were diagnosed with breast cancer within a space of two weeks. Lea used her personal experience with cancer to establish Pink Lily five years ago. Since the charity’s launch, Pink Lily mobilises the public to join the global community every October to mark Breast Cancer Month
This year, Pink Lily is celebrating give great years of achievement. Lea Parris Cambridge and Pink Lily volunteers have finalised plans for the walkathon. Registering early and participating in the walkathon goes a long way to support efforts being made to fight cancer. Walkathon participants will commence the walk promptly at Chicken Stone by entrance to Eva Wilkins Art Gallery and end the walk at Pinneys Beach by Sunshine’s Beach Bar where they will be treated to a delicious breakfast.
Registration fee for adults is EC30 and EC20 for children under 12. Registration is ongoing through email or picking a registration form at A1 Technology . A registration desk will be mounted by Pink Lily volunteers at the Memorial Square, Charlestown, Nevis on Wednesday, 16th October and on Friday 18th October from 10.00 a.m to 4.00 p.m. During the registration walkathon participants can pick up a T-shirt and a breakfast ticket.
The 5th anniversary walkathon platinum sponsors are Rams and North and Western Insurance. Other sponsors include Cape Air,Four Seasons Resort,Scotia Bank, Delisle Walwyn, Errol Pemberton, Boddie and Channel 8.
“To commemorate this 5 year milestone in Nevis and 4 years in St. Kitts, Pink Lily is inviting sponsors past and new and the community as a whole to join hands and walk with us as we continue the fight to prevent cancer, promote early detection, support those who have been affected by cancer and saves more lives in St. Kitts & Nevis,” Lea Parris Cambridge said.
She called on the whole community to join hands with Pink Lily to celebrate 5 years of cancer awareness, support and care services to Nevis as Pink Lily moves forward to the next phase of developing the organisation in order to increase and improve the cancer care services in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis.
She said those who participate in the annual walkathon will be acknowledging the seriousness of cancer in St. Kitts & Nevis and the need and value of the services provided by Pink Lily in the community. “We need funds to open a Pink Lily Awareness & Support Centre and employ full time staff in Nevis,” Lea Parris Cambridge said.
“For the last 5 years, Pink Lily has tirelessly raised awareness of cancer, supported and made appeals on behalf of sufferers in their time of need and raised funds and provided screening and counselling services to over 200 women and provided financial assistance for treatments and care. As volunteers we have continued demonstrating our commitment and dedication to providing quality cancer care in St. Kitts & Nevis,” Lea Parris Cambridge noted.
“We need the help and continued support of the community by way of sponsorship, donations, funding and participation to build and develop the organisation in order to enhance our services, educate, support and care for more people and families,”she further said.
“Cancer can affect anyone regardless of gender, age, culture, racial origin, religion or income. Cancer does not discriminate. It can affect us at any time without warning,” Tracy Parris noted.
