Late goals, late drama in several matches of the National Bank Group of Companies’ Premier League this past weekend, with teams rescuing a point from losing positions. It all started on Friday night when DBSKN St. Peters FC took 2-0 first half lead against SKELEC Garden Hotspurs, only for Spurs to score two goals to equalize; the second in stoppage time.

Coach George Yellowman Isaac of Spurs, reiterated his team’s never say die attitude for their relentless efforts to draw the match. Meanwhile, Coach Austin Dico Huggins of St. Peters blamed in part, the red card Duncan received leaving his team being down to ten men as a reason for the collapse. “I don’t think that after we lost the player that we settled down and played the game. We tend to rush the play, therefore giving Spurs the opportunity to come forward and play the ball. It’s two brilliant goals (Spurs) scored so I must say kudos to them. But I think we once again failed so we have to continue working,” Huggins said.
On Saturday night, May 11th again we saw another late show, this time from Azul Cayon Rockets, scoring in stoppage time to draw 1-1 with Honda Newtown United.

Coach of Cayon Anthony “Nets” Isaac, was full of praises for his team. “It’s a joy to get it in the manner in which we got it. We were under a lot of pressure to be honest, but after (Newtown) scored, the players decided we have to get one back,” Isaac said. Then, again on Sunday; a six-goal thriller at Warner Park and a repeat of last year’s finals: SL Horfords St. Paul’s United and Rams Village Superstars.

Coach Stephen Clarke of Village talked about the resilient spirit of his team, but said its time they begin getting three points from their matches, instead of draws. “We wanted three points. We needed the three points; we didn’t get it. Still, we got one point; we will accept it and move on,” Clarke lamented.
Jamal Jeffers of St. Paul’s United said his team will keep fighting. “In football it’s about moments, it about both attack and defense and in those moments you want to be switched on 100%. Unfortunately, we gave up a late goal but you still see the resilience of the team. We know what St. Paul’s’ can produce. Everybody knows that. We just have to find our rhythm and get back to winning ways,” he said.
