Basseterre, St. Kitts, (SKNIS): The nomination deadline for the 3rd annual 25 Most Remarkable Teen Awards is June 04 and members of the public are encouraged to play their part in this national event.
Chereca Weaver, Senior Youth Officer in the Department of Youth Empowerment said that a number of completed nomination forms have been received but persons should not wait until the last minute to submit candidates for consideration. Additionally, she revealed that some individuals have expressed a reluctance to nominate persons due to perceived character flaws or past affiliations. The senior youth officer stressed that this should not be an issue provided the candidates have made concerted efforts to change and are now leading a positive life and contributing productively to society.
The 25 Most Remarkable Teens honours youth 12 to 19 years of age in a number of non-traditional categories such as Courage to Overcome, Leadership, Community Service, Dance, Civic Involvement, Music and Most Promising Teen.
“Many teens have truly inspirational stories that may bring some to tears as they have overcome personal challenges and continue to press forward to achieve their lifelong goals while some are remarkable because of their diligence and hard work to improve their life and the lives of others at such a young age,” Ms. Weaver said.
The teens can be nominated by anyone in society and persons can nominate more than one individual. Forms are available online at www.youth.gov.kn or from the Department of Youth Empowerment on Church Street.
All nominees are interviewed in person and the selections are made based on an established criterion. The successful 25 will be honoured at a special sitting of the National Assembly, held during Youth Month in November, where their stories are highlighted and awards presented by members of the Federal Parliament.
