The annual Skipping competition for Primary schools, was held at the St. Thomas’ Primary School on Thursday 29th November.
The competition, now in its fourth year, is the brain child of long serving coach at the school, Mr. Eddy Caines Richards, who ably chaired the event.
Main sponsor, Hon. Vance Amory, was once again on board, providing trophies and skipping ropes for the winners. These were presented at the end of the competition, by his wife, Mrs. Vernie Amory, who showed her youthfulness by doing a skip of her own.
Five schools participated in the event: Host St. Thomas’ Primary; Joycelyn Liburd Primary; VOJN Primary; Elizabeth Pemberton Primary; Ivor Walters Primary and newcomers-Montessori.
The team events saw the children skipping in pairs; in threes and individually-backward and forward; side to side, as they demonstrated their skills.
The final showdown saw all of the girls and then the boys, competing to see who will endure and skip the longest.
For the girls, it came down to a nail biting finish between Kerisha of St. Thomas’ Primary and defending champion, Tiana Griffin of the Joycelyn Liburd Primary, with Tiana just stopping a split second before Kerisha, for Kerisha to be awarded as the winner.
For the boys, Carlton Pluck of the Joycelyn Liburd Primary, outshone all of his competitors by a long way, to establish a brand new record, as the champion for the boys.
The overall school placements were as follows:
Champions-Joycelyn Liburd Primary-281points
2nd place-St. Thomas’ Primary-272 points
3rd place- Montessori -246 points
