Ivor Walters Primary School Hosts Empowerment Sessions for Grade Six Graduates

Thursday, June 6th, 2024, students of Grades 5 and 6 of the Ivor Walters Primary School engaged in an Empowerment through Self-care Workshop hosted by the school’s counsellor, Ms. Shevonne Lowe.
During the morning, students of Grade 6 were actively engaged in an Art Therapy (origami-making) session facilitated by Mrs. Jevon Dyer, who coached them through a variety of mindfulness activities.
Mrs. Dyer is closely affiliated with the school, as she is the composer and designer of the school’s song and the school’s logo, respectively. She was also the first Guidance Counselor attached to the Ivor Walters Primary School.

The children also feasted on a Decision Making session, facilitated by renowned chef, Mr Patrick Browne, out of St. Kitts. Mr. Browne used Fruit Art to engage students in discussions surrounding transitioning to High School and Decision-making.

During the afternoon, there were two (2) breakout sessions targeting boys only and girls only. The grade 6 students were joined by the Grade 5 students to engage in discussions surrounding Menstrual Hygiene. These sessions were facilitated by Miss Saros Hendrickson of the Department of Gender Affairs.

Also present was the Education Officer, Mrs Shinella Nisbett who greeted the students and encouraged them to use all the strategies and tips shared to navigate high school and life, in general.
The principal, staff and students extend heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to the success of the Empowerment through Self-care Workshop for Girls and Boys; and do look forward to your continued support in the future.
